Patton the Schnauzer was a delightful energetic little fluff, full of enthusiasm for life. Which is both a blessing and a curse for us when it comes to pet photography! So we chose a small park across the road from where he lives with his mum. Being somewhere Patton spends a lot of time and is familiar with helped to limit distractions, resulting in a calmer temperament.

When organising his photo session his mum, Sula, was concerned he may bark at me the whole time I was trying to photograph him. Armed with that useful information, I was conscious of not giving him too much attention to start with. I also stood clear of Sula so he didn’t feel protective. After he’d gotten used to me his mum took his lead off, and he was perfectly content. Playing ball also helped keep his focus away from me.

Once we were the best of friends Patton started posing up a storm. He seemed to feed off our response to his cute tricks. Patton loved having a chew on a stick, and even playing soccer. He was also super cuddly as you can see here in the photos. I was delighted with the beautiful acacia in bloom in the background, forming the perfect backdrop to these lovely pet photos.
