Cat photography is not an exact science (just ask Frida & Khalo, or Alf & Eliza!). Mostly I spend far more time chilling out, waiting for the cats to relax before I can start photographing them. But that wasn’t the case with Kisses and BooBoo. Ginger tabby Kisses was the intended star of our shoot (it was predicted BooBoo would not cooperate with a stranger) and boy was he made for the camera! Knowing the beautiful bond they share Kisses Mum, Sharree, had very thoughtfully been gifted a Premium Package by her partner Luke. He knew, above all else, Sharree wanted a beautiful photo of her and Kisses.

Surprisingly, we nailed that within 5 minutes! Kisses and Sharree were so cute together, lounging around on their queen size bed. We then proceeded to get even more variety, aiming to capture all aspects of Kisses personality. Kisses being kissed, and his accompanying WTF look, is hilarious! It’s absolute gold, and one of my favourite cat photos!!!

Later, as we were photographing beside the pool, a cute black kitty stepped out from behind a shrub and strolled over to us. ‘This is BooBoo,’ Sharree said with surprise. ‘He doesn’t normally like new people, I can’t believe he is all over you right now, letting you pat his belly.’ Thankfully this allowed me to get some great shots of him too. The photo below I took while I had one hand on BooBoo’s belly, and one hand on the camera.

Firstly, what is your favourite thing about Kisses & BooBoo?

Kisses – His range of expressive meows and different facial animations, his beautiful ginger tabby colour, plus his complete devotion to me!
BooBoo – His urgent needy behaviour, all pats and all food needs to be given right now! His loving Nature and his two rogue white whiskers.

We know every fur baby is unique, & in your totally unbiased opinion you have the best pets ever!
What makes yours so special?

The bond and the unspoken understanding that I share with both of them, especially Kisses, I feel deeply connected to him on another level that has developed over 17 years together. He has knowing eyes.

Booboo, he is the sweetest boy and in our 13 years together never once has he ever got angry or grumpy, a claw has never been used, a nip has never been given, I swear he doesn’t have a single bad bone in his little cat body.

Tell us something about Kisses & BooBoo that will make us laugh?

They are both the most awkward eaters I’ve ever seen! Kisses drops everything! If I pass him a treat he has a 20% chance of taking it and keeping hold of it, this increases slightly if I strategically poke it right into his mouth. They are both obsessed with freshly caught fish that my fiancé Luke brings home. BooBoo shakes his head when he eats, his food area is like a crime scene when he’s finished. Treats must be placed on the floor only, never in a bowl. Milk must be warmed for 10 seconds before it’s drinkable, apparently!

They are also the worst “toileters”. Kisses always manages to awkwardly put one back foot in his poop (wet wipes always on hand). BooBoo will not cover his poop, he prefers to poop and run! Literally – we all know when he’s pooped as a mad excited sprint through the house ensues directly after.

Sleeping spots – all beds, blankets, dressing gowns, and cozy chairs belong to Kisses. All odd hidey holes, corners, and floor rugs belong to Booboo… We once found him asleep on the pool blanket! He’d balanced himself and walked out into the middle of the swimming pool on top of the pool blanket and curled up!!

Why is having beautiful imagery of your pets important to you?

It’s something I’ve never had but always wanted, always dreamed of having. These days photos I’ve taken of them are usually on my phone and that’s where they stay.
My cats are my most favourite things in the world, they are my love and now they are my art. It’s a beautiful reminder of how unique and wonderful they are and how much they are a part of the family. I know when they are no longer by my side that this imagery will be treasured forever.

The Ballad of Kisses
Kisses also as his very own song that my fiancé and I have made up for him. It’s called “These are a few of my least favourite things”, and is due to the fact that he has always been
a little fragile and on edge when it comes to sudden sounds & movements. We’ve noticed certain things bother him more than others.
It is sung in the tune of “My Favourite Things” from The Sound of Music. It goes a little something like this:
“Plastic bags and deodorant cans
These are a few of my least favourite things
Loud coughs and sneezes, the wind when it blows and the cold when it freezes
These are a few of my least favourite things!
Sudden movements, loud voices and lighting the gas heater. I especially do not like the Dyson vacuum cleaner
These are a few of my least favourite things!!”
